Dotted across America, there still exist many places like this – automotive graveyards. This one is somewhere in Michigan and its called Roy Boys Transmissions. I can barely drive past a breakers yard without wanting to stop and ask permission to walk around the site and look at all the rusty old car shells spread out in rows, almost like dinosaur bones, which have been discovered on an archeological dig. After stopping and talking with the owner Roy, I decided to follow him around his work place, as he stoked the fire, rummaged and chatted to me. All the time I could not help wondering for how many years he had been accumulating all of these hub caps and other bits and pieces. It is really a bit like taking photographs I suppose. It also puts me in mind of that great song by Country Music Legend Johnny Cash, entitled “One Piece At A Time”.
