Who Are You Looking At

The question might better be posed this way; ‘What do you think you’re looking at’? This is a series of self portraits, made in New York City. I had the idea in a magazine shop, which also housed a great collection of large rubber heads, which all hung down from the ceiling. I decided to ask the owner if I could perform a series of self portraits, wearing the masks and standing in front of his extensive magazine selection. It was a busy shop, so people kept coming and going, and each time somebody bought a newspaper or some candy the “photo shoot” was halted temporarily, and I would be left waiting in one of the rubber heads.
